Improving the Game-Viewing Experience for GameChanger

Issue

GameChanger, now a subsidiary of Dick's Sporting Goods, develops a live scoring app that delivers coaching insights and fan updates for more than 125,000 amateur baseball, softball and basketball teams. 

Since the launch of their flagship app in 2010, GameChanger has offered GameStream, an advanced game viewing experience for fans. Their existing GameStream experience worked well, but needed improvements in user experience and performance.

Solution

GameChanger and Sweetpea Mobile joined forces to implement an updated baseball & softball GameStream game-viewing experience from the ground up.

Result

The new and improved baseball & softball GameStream experience launched in the App Store with a cleaner look, a clearer play-by-play and a more informative box score.

More Friends = More Stars: A Video Discovery App Gets Mightier

Issue

MightyTV hastened to release its first iPhone app for helping users discover great videos using personal preferences and the opinions of trusted friends. The problem was, the app was only available for Facebook users, which left non-Facebook users out of the picture. And MightyTV’s growing user base wanted to create accounts independent of Facebook.

With these users giving the app 1-star reviews in the App Store, MightyTV knew it needed to launch standalone login and registration capabilities – fast. And the app’s Facebook exclusivity was holding the company back from adding other user features, so resolving the problem became all the more urgent.

Solution

Sweetpea Mobile implemented a standalone user creation and login flow for MightyTV’s iOS app. Judiciously using Apple's APIs, we were able to speed up the development process by utilizing specific Apple-provided components for the user registration flow, such as taking or uploading a photo for the user’s MightyTV profile.

Result

With all users now able to create a standalone MightyTV account, without having to link it to Facebook, negative reviews changed quickly to positive reviews. Users are now able to share address books and add friends, using patterns similar to LinkedIn and Snapchat, which are key aspects of MightyTV’s business strategy. Download in the App Store.

A Real-Time App Leads to Happier Trails

Issue

When passengers from DC Trails hop on-hop off city tours got off the bus to explore Washington D.C., they often didn’t know when the next bus would arrive or exactly where to catch the next bus.

Frustrated, some tour passengers would call the bus dispatcher for information on bus arrival times and locations. As a result, despite a high level of customer satisfaction with the tours themselves, DC Trails was facing a reputational problem due to negative Yelp and TripAdvisor reviews related to the bus stop challenges.

Solution

Sweetpea Mobile designed and conducted a user study to examine the user experience personas and needs of DC Trail’s customers. The user study helped DC Trails determine if a mobile app would improve the passenger experience, and the types of features the mobile experience should have.

Result

Launching in Q1 of 2017, DC Trails’ iOS app will take advantage of the iPhone’s rich GPS capabilities to show passengers the location of each hop on-hop off bus in real time. The app will also integrate with TripAdvisor to provide the most relevant and up-to-date information about each tour’s attractions.
